The Complete Story

Alpina Raggi became a CoCreate customer in 1990, when the Italian company purchased its first license of OneSpace Drafting, CoCreate's 2D CAD program. Ten years later, the company updated its design technology, choosing OneSpace Modeling as the 3D software for the technical department.

"At the time, our main concern was to effectively reuse our existing 2D Drafting files", says Fabio Alberio, manager of Alpina Raggi's technical department. "We looked at parametric systems, but their modeling features seemed too rigid, and that would have meant less freedom for our designers."

Alpina Raggi builds highly complex machines, each unique and new. To be successful, the company requires a flexible design system. Because of its dynamic modeling capabilities, OneSpace was the only CAD system that offered the flexibility Alpina Raggi needs.

"Ever since I began using OneSpace Modeling, I have seen improvements in design quality and consequently in the quality of our machines too", says Alberio. "This translates into lower costs throughout the design project. That's a great way to keep your manager very happy too!"

Alberio was designing a machine with 1700 parts when he began using OneSpace Modeling. "Since CoCreate's 3D modeler is very intuitive, I decided to try modeling in 3D. After only four hours of training I could work productively on the machine," says Alberio.

Besides design, the company uses the OneSpace Modeling software as a sales tool: Customers can see their products electronically as a 3D model during sales presentations. Alpina Raggi also uses 3D CAD to prepare documentation, such as brochures, as well as in the creation of the manuals for their machines.

"Because of high customer demand, we're thinking of adding more modeling seats to our technical department", says Alberio. "Soon we'll implement CoCreate OneSpace Model Manager to manage project data as well."
